It is all about the data. Social-media is dominated by "marketers" at the moment. I actually think that information-engineers have yet to fully contribute.
This mirrors many of our internal discussions at Proof. We are former teachers, but our goal is not to create learning systems--education technology means harnessing the power of data. Yes, we like to be paid for deploying grades (marks) and comment systems, but one of the things that really motivates us is the idea that you can share data, and I don't mean sharing a report of your data but making data fully transportable, consumable, and mashable.
