Raising the bar: What makes a school information system "ready"?

We haven't talked much publically about the work we have been doing on our unified school information system. A conversation I had the other day with a potential client made me think that it was about time to share some of what we have been working on and thinking about, starting with why we haven't released our product yet.

I was walking her through our system and she said, "this is so much better than what we have been using and anything we have seen recently. Why haven't you been marketing the product?"

It is a very good question, and it comes down to one simple thing: our internal expectations are a lot higher than the bar set by the market. By most standards, our software is feature complete and ready to go. We could have released it long ago. But we hold ourselves to a higher standard.

We currently offer school information system frameworks to handle admissions and academics in a fully integrated way, meaning no bio or contact info duplication and no artificial distinctions between who is in the school, who is coming back to the school, and who is interested in coming to the school. In addition, everything we do is powered by fmSpark, which is the best filemaker communications module out there.

We feel these frameworks are already on par with and in many ways better than any FileMaker based school systems out there. But in our experience it's not enough to be 'good-enough.' If fmSpark has thought us anything it is that great customer support and a great relationships begin with a great product. And the support and relationship are every bit as important as the product itself.

The custom deployments of our frameworks that we are currently doing result in great products, but they take time to button up. We pick these projects carefully because we are very mindful of not overextending ourselves which can diminish the quality of the product and support we deliver.

With every project we take on we make a commitment to providing tremendous value and a long term relationship. We won't consider our frameworks to be product ready until we are confident that we can bring that value and that relationship to a larger number of schools on a consistent basis. We're nearly there, and we couldn't be more excited about it.

In the mean time drop us a line. We would love to show you what we are doing and where we are going. Exciting things are coming from Proof.
