Frequently Asked QuestionsFrequently Asked Questions

Who is fmSpark for?

fmSpark is for anyone who sends emails, prints letters or labels from their FileMaker Pro databases. Yep, that means pretty much everyone. Oh, and it is cross-platform. If you can run FileMaker Pro, you can run fmSpark.

Why would I use fmSpark?

Do you like to keep your correspondence organized? Would you prefer to compose letters in browse mode rather than layout mode? Would you like to be able to merge your data into an html template to send to your contacts rather than uploading a list to Constant Contact? Well, there's your answer!

How can fmSpark be integrated with my database?

A non-expert developer can integrate fmSpark into most FileMaker-8.5 or 9 based databases in under 20 minutes following the step-by-step instructions in our online documentation. If you are not comfortable doing it yourself, you can also engage Proof to do it for you. Check out a video of the integration process at the SeedCode fmSpark page.

Where can I buy fmSpark?

Proof designed and built fmSpark and SeedCode is publishing and distributing it. You can buy single user ($129), workgroup ($549), site ($999) and OEM/Developer licenses ($1,499) on SeedCode's site.

What is an OEM license?

OEM ("Original Equipment Manufacturer") licenses are for developers interested in integration or distributing fmSpark with their own solutions. Please check out the license FAQ at SeedCode for more details.

What is a site license?

fmSpark site licenses are for organizations that want to deploy more than one copy of fmSpark across multiple workgroups. An example would be a school with multiple FileMaker solutions that wants to manage their admissions, development and academic letters, email templates and labels separately. Please check out the license FAQ at SeedCode for more details.

Can new features be added to fmSpark?

fmSpark is sold completely open, and you have access to modify or extend functionality. Proof is available to work with you to add features or customize fmSpark for your specific needs.

Do I need to know HTML?

HTML knowledge is not required to use fmSpark. However, knowledge of HTML is useful if you want to build your own custom HTML stationery.

Is there an option for plain text format if the recipients' email client can't handle html?

Yes. The plain text part is supported and can be separately customized from the HTML part, including it's own merge values, etc.

Are the images sent as part of the email or hosted on a server?

fmSpark supports both inline images (images sent as attachments to the email) as well as externally-referenced images. The ratio of inline to external images can be 0:100, 100:0 or somewhere in between. There are pros and cons to both.

Can I incorporate a standard "opt out" as part of the footer to be spam compliant?

The template can be preloaded with whatever content or text you wish to provide, including a standard "opt out" footer.
