FileMaker ESS: Read, don't write.
FileMaker Pro's External SQL Source (ESS) is among the most important developer-centric features in the current version (v9). I love ESS. But I am a bit wary of some of the practices I am seeing. First, let me explain how we generally use ESS.
Report from the NY FileMaker Developer's Group
We had quite a success at the monthly meeting of the NY FileMaker Developer's Group. I demonstrated fmSpark to the group and a raffle was held for a free copy of fmSpark (congratulations, Victor!). Other topics included a primer on custom menus, data separation and a general Q&A round table. A special thanks to Agi, Chuck, Tony, Jay, Mehboob and others for their gracious help and the rest of the folks for attending.

What does a "long-term-relationship-with-you" actually mean?
Raising the bar: What makes a school information system "ready"?
We haven't talked much publically about the work we have been doing on our unified school information system. A conversation I had the other day with a potential client made me think that it was about time to share some of what we have been working on and thinking about, starting with why we haven't released our product yet.
I was walking her through our system and she said, "this is so much better than what we have been using and anything we have seen recently. Why haven't you been marketing the product?"
